Double Heelix Socks Wed, 2012-03-21 14:12

An absolute pain to make, but well worth it! Starting at the heel of the sock (yes, you read that right ;) with 4 different strands of yarn to create the twirly pattern.. absolute genius this pattern!

Bryan's Car Hat Sun, 2011-11-06 19:45

Bryan wanted another hat this year (well, his mommy did, he doesn't care much yet :) Together we picked this pattern, and it is probably the most fun thing I've made so far. It looks amazing - and even Bryan looks happy wearing it this time (apparently he's been showing it off everyone ;) From the left-over yarn I made a matching scarf and mittens.

More Box Bags Sun, 2011-10-16 15:56

Made a few more box bags over the pas few weeks. Two of them have already found new homes, the others I am all keeping! Almost all my WIPs are now stored in their own little bags :) I guess I need to stop casting on new things until one of the bags is empty again.. meh. too sensible.

Dutch Goodies! Thu, 2011-10-06 22:21

We got our delivery from Real Dutch Food today - an online shop that sells Dutch food.We don't order from there often, mainly because shipping is very expensive. But once in a while we treat ourselves to a huge delivery! nomnomnom..

For anyone who isn't Dutch and is ever going on a trip to Holland - these are the things you *have* to try if you haven't already: liquorice, pepernoten (only available in Nov / Dec each year), stroopwafels and bastogne koeken. At your own risk though, I will not be held responsible for any addictions ;)

Probably my favourite cardigan! Love the retro colours and it fits very well - and it's machine-washable, definitely an advantage :)

Northern Ireland Trip Mon, 2011-09-12 17:45

My friend Britt came to visit me this weekend, so we went on a road-trip through Donegal and Northern Ireland. The way over was a bit of a disaster.. Britt wasn't feeling well and got car sick, and we got utterly and completely lost. I blame that entirely on our GPS though! I asked it to go to Main Street, Letterkenny, and it said "sure, no problem! here's the route". So I trusted it.. And you know where it brought us? Main Street, Dungloe. Dungloe! That is about an hour from Letterkenny... Look!

So, lesson learned: never trust your GPS - always zoom out and double check where it's bringing you!

Anyway, apart from actually getting to Letterkenny on the first evening, we had a great time! Nice views, great weather (most of the time), an exciting rope bridge to walk across and lots and lots of catching up that was long overdue!

HandmAid Craft Day Sun, 2011-09-04 14:41

Yesterday was HandmAid Craft Day - organised by two Dublin knitters in aid of relief for the famine currently happening in the Horn of Africa. The turn out was absolutely amazing, and much fun was had (and much money raised - € 5,000!).

There were a lot of different classes organised: embroidery, sock puppet making, felting, origami, needle tatting, card-making, spinning, beading and various knitting and crochet classes. There was also a "coffee" area with tea / coffee and various home-baked goods that were absolutely delicious, and bean bags! And we also sold stuff - lots of people very generously donated yarn, patterns, hand-knit items and various other things (oh! box bags! so cute :). We had our hands full all day taking money from people while all these bargains were swept up.

It was also great fun to see my own donations find appreciative new owners! I made two hats and some baby booties, and am happy to say they all sold :D

Garfunkel & Oates in Dublin! Sun, 2011-07-24 23:05

I've been a huge fan of Garfunkel & Oates for ages, and accidentally found out that they'd be at the Vodafone Comedy Festival this year! Win! So we got tickets, and it was great :D Couldn't take any good pictures though, but I'll put one up anyway, just to prove that we were there ;)

Nerdy Baby Cardigan Thu, 2011-07-07 19:56

I heard through the grapevine that my PhD supervisor was expecting his first baby, so I made them this cute maths-y cardigan with a bit of category theory on the back :) Welcome baby Elise!

A Foray into Sewing Sun, 2011-06-26 18:12

Since I got a sewing machine, I thought I might as well see if I could actually sew something.. It was fun! Got some cute fabric from Hickeys and from The Woollen Mills and managed to make two little bags: a box bag in apple-y fabric based on this excellent tutorial, and a pleated bag from a non-free pattern I bought. One lesson learned though: sewing takes an aweful lot longer than you'd think..
