Welcome Baby Bryan! Sat, 2010-02-13 15:27

A little baby boy has entered this world yesterday, his name is Bryan Reintjes: welcome Bryan!

Please don't make life too hard for your parents... they might need some sleep too once in a while :)

I have booked flights to go home on Wednesday evening, and with a bit of luck I will meet Bryan some time on Thursday - he better be cute! ;) This means the baby cardigan I knit last March might finally get some use, I hope Bryan likes it:

Roundup Sun, 2010-01-10 21:00

It's been a while, so here's a roundup of some projects I finished in the past few months.

First, I finished my Phildar Tee somewhere near the end of October. I don't really have a good photo of it, but this is the best I got:

I like it! But what torture it was to finish it.. I vow to never make another garment that needs to be sewn together after knitting. I modified the body to be knit in the round, but that still leaves 2 tiny sleeves, 1 neck band at the front and two shoulder/back bands.

After finishing this I finally started on the Labyrinth sweater. Being very eager to get this started I ignored all common sense, rewrote the pattern to fit my gauge at certain points, but did not carry this through everywhere. This results in a rather crooked sweater, especially since the neckline is so pronounced it really shouldn't be messed with. After reaching the underarms (it's a top-down pattern) I tried it on and decided this really wasn't going to work and started over - this time taking extra care to follow the pattern exactly (but still with a different gauge). And it worked!

Throughout knitting these two I knit some other bits and bobs: an iphone cozy for my new phone, and a teensy tiny Dendron hat to celebrate Edsko's mother's 25th anniversary working at Dendron College.

Happy Socks Thu, 2009-10-15 20:37

My first pair of socks finished! And thanks to the choice of yarn they look suitably complicated :)

Looks like it's really going to happen! Sat, 2009-09-26 21:55

I can't believe it - but it looks like my thesis is actually going to be finished by next Wednesday! Less than a week to go and I'll be done.. no more writing.. no more research.. just.. sleep. knit. read. and maybe fix this website and a few other things on my near-endless todo list :) Looking forward to it!!

Full House Thu, 2009-08-27 11:43

Our landlord told us some architects were doing some sort of survey in our apartment building, and they might drop by our apartment today. Ok, sure, no problem we said.

There was a knock at the door 20 minutes ago and 2 guys came in, going straight to the kitchen (apparently they were checking for damp)... then another guy came in, said hi and walked to the kitchen.. and another... and another... and another... and they just kept coming! soon our kitchen was spilling over into the living room because they didn't all fit in there :) I think there were about 8 or 10 in total in the end. Luckily it didn't take them long to do whatever they came to do, and one by one they left again...

Surreal.. like a really bad comedy :)

Right, show is over, back to work now!

Change of Scenery Thu, 2009-07-30 20:57

Today was a very good day! I now officially declare "My Research" to be done :) *trumpets please*!

Tomorrow a new era will start: "The Writing of the Thesis" ... uhoh

So, a change of scenery regarding work, but also a change of scenery regarding.. err.. scenery :) Tomorrow I'm going home for a week, looking forward to it!

In other news: my sister will be getting the key to her new apartment tomorrow! She has now officially moved to Hengelo, very strange... little sisters shouldn't be allowed to grow up, get a proper job and move into a fancy apartment.. it just shouldn't be allowed. I'll be helping them with the move Saturday week (it really is a coincidence that I'm home for that particular weekend, but a very nice coincidence, as I can't wait to see the new place!).

Sock Magic Sat, 2009-06-27 10:54

Aaaaaaaaand *drum roll*

I have just started my first sock an hour ago! I have decided that even if I may never like hand-knit socks (and maybe I do, only one way to find out), I still want to be able to make them - just to prove I can ;) It will be a toe-up sock because, well, because that just seems to make more sense..

So far I have managed the magic cast on, which (as far as I can tell now) gives me a perfectly seamless join for the toe - I have to say: I'm suitably impressed!

And now I'm working some increases, following the Rounded Toe pattern (Also on Ravelry).
For the rest of the sock I plan to follow the Lifestyle Socks pattern (Also on Ravelry).

The combination of the tiny needles and the small circle for the toes certainly makes for fiddly knitting!

WWKIP Day 2010 Sat, 2009-06-13 19:51

World Wide Knit in Public Day - an excellent place to meet some Dublin knitters!

The morning was spent knitting on the balcony in Powerscourt Townhouse. I think there were about 20 people there at the end! To say the balcony was crowded is a bit of an understatement.. At around 2pm, we all moved to St. Stephen's Green Park near the bandstand. The weather was perfect! I was (of course) wearing my just-finished Red Tee :)
I just had my phone with me, so I only took one picture:

But more can be found on the Dublin Knit Collective Flickr page, kindly set up by chicwithstix: here, here and here.

I did get a lot done today though! I had only just started my Phildar tee 2 days ago, and now it already looks like this:

Red Tee Mon, 2009-06-08 00:01

It's done! My Red Tee is now officially finished!
I like it! It is a teensy bit too big, but I can live with that. And I really really like the colour combination of the red and blue - thank you Edsko for the suggestion :-)

xkcd "Sudo Sandwich" Pillow Cover Wed, 2009-06-03 18:09

I created this chart based on xkcd comic 149, and you can find the chart as a free download on Ravelry, or as a PDF.

And here is a cool little counter to see how many other people on Ravelry have knitted (or started knitting, or claim to have started knitting) this:

Dropstitch Tank Top Thu, 2009-05-07 17:45

Button-Wrapped Fingerless Gloves Mon, 2009-03-30 15:34

I wanted fingerless gloves with a button band, but couldn't find a pattern. So I just fudged it :)

Raglan Baby Cardi Sat, 2009-03-28 14:33

I did a class at This is Knit about how to knit a raglan sweater, and this is the result :) Recipient of this cute little cardigan as of yet unknown and unborn..

Zune Hoodie Sat, 2009-03-28 11:08

Edsko's Zune needed a cover, so decided to knit it a tiny KMW hoodie :)

Shopping Tunic Thu, 2009-02-19 17:45

Blocked Scarf Wed, 2009-02-04 14:33

My very first scarf...

Bike Earwarmers Wed, 2009-01-14 14:04

A very clever design to add earwarmers to a bike helmet!
